چکیده

Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) is a radio frequency spectroscopic technique that can be used to detect solidstate compounds containing quadrupolar nuclei, a requirement fulfilled by most high explosives (and narcotics). In this paper, we present an overview of recent research in the detection of explosives using this technique. We also present mathematical models for the data for different acquistion techniques and discuss different state of the art detection algorithms. Finally, we evaluate various algorithms on measured and simulated NQR data.

Investigation of Wavelet-based Enhancements to Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance Explosives Detectors*

Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) is effective for the detection and identification of certain types of explosives such as RDX, PETN and TNT. In explosive detection, the NQR response of certain 14N nuclei present in the crystalline material is probed. The 14N nuclei possess a nuclear quadrupole moment which in the presence of an electric field gradient produces an energy level splitting which ...

NQR Characteristics of an RDX Plastic Explosives Simulant

For reliable detection of explosives, a combination of methods integrated within a single measurement platform may increase detection performance. However, the efficient field testing of such measurement platforms requires the use of inexplosive simulants that are detectable by a wide range of methods. Physical parameters such as simulant density, elemental composition and crystalline structure...

Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (paper Ii)

The Polymer Diagnostics Section (Code 6122) of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has expertise in solid state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR). In 1983, NRL established an interagency agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to advise the FAA on NMR methods to detect explosives. We were aware of ear...

Remote sensing by nuclear quadrupole resonance

Detection of explosives has the flavor of those mathematical problems that are not invertible. It is easier to hide explosives than to find them. Many approaches have been proposed and executed for the remote detection of explosives, contraband materials, weapons of mass destruction, currency, etc. Most detection technologies suffer from a common problem: the features they look for, such as dis...

An Overview of NQR Signal Detection Algorithms

Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) is a solid-state radio frequency spectroscopic technique that can be used to detect the presence of quadrupolar nuclei, that are prevalent in many narcotics, drugs, and explosive materials. Similar to other modern spectroscopic techniques, such as nuclear magnetic resonance, and Raman spectroscopy, NQR also relies heavily on statistical signal processing syste...
